This picture was made with watercolour pencils when I  was feeling successful and satisfied having completed a long awaited project.

I chose a section of it (a 30 degree pie shape) and blocked it off with pieces of paper. I then scanned it into the computer. With Adobe Photoshop 4, I cleaned up the edges and then made copies of each section, reversing the piece for every second spot.

To put them together, I used a drawing program, Dabbler 2, where I can bring in each piece and put it in place. This takes dexterity with your mouse, and a bit of time but I enjoy watching the designs appear as the mandala grows.

On a website called Earth Mandalas there is a tutorial for making mandalas using just the Photoshop program. I found I could not use their method to produce large mandalas, large enough to print in a satisfyingly big way (10 inches across), but for ones that you can see on your computer about the size of the mandala on the right, it worked well.

This drawing was done when I was feeling very alone. It was a tight little black knot in the middle of a big page.

This mandala is made with 45 degree sections in the same way as the one above.
